slow-computerIs your PC fighting to run the most simple programs, and taking forever to start up? Maybe it’s time to go out and spend a lot of money on a new one? Catch your breath and wait a few minutes, because, it´s not certain that it´s necessary.

With some tips on how to fix a slow PC there is a good chance of regaining lost power, and get the PC back in gear by cleaning and optimizing.

Start fresh

The sure way to get the old PC back in top form is to delete everything and reinstall Windows. Then you get cleaned out in what tears the machine and can start completely on a fresh one. If there are documents, photos or other content that you want to save, please make a backup.

Next, go to ‘Settings’, select ‘Update and Security’, click ‘Recovery’ in the page and then ‘Get started’ under Reset this PC.

1. Clean the slow PC

The first step on the road to a faster PC is to give it a good cleaning. Open Explorer, right-click your drive and select ‘Properties’. Click the ‘Disk Cleanup’ button, then select which content must be deleted. Click ‘Clean up in system files’ to get it all.

2. Remove redundant software

Over time, many programs will be installed. Maybe some you will not be needing anymore. They occupy not only space but also extract power from the PC. So, under ‘Add or Remove Programs’ in the control panel, select the ones you won’t be using again and delete them. This can make a big difference, especially if you’re in need of the storage space.

3. Get to the bottom

Programs leave a trail of small tracks on the computer. In order to get rid of all the rest of your old programs, you may need to grab a program like CCleaner that efficiently cleans the PC and helps to speed it up. It can be downloaded free of charge at piriform.com.

4. Optimize your disks

Windows can optimize your hard drives so they work faster. Right-click on a disk under ‘This computer’, select ‘Properties’, click on the ‘Features’ tab and then ‘Optimize.’ You can choose to optimize now and here or click ‘Change Settings’ and get the PC to do it daily or weekly.

5. Get a faster start

The more programs that start up at the same time on your PC, the slower it will get started. Then clear the boot list. You can find it by pressing ‘Ctrl + Alt + Del’, selecting ‘Job List’, clicking on the ‘Start’ tab and then pressing ‘Disable’ for programs you do not want to boot with the PC by itself. Just make sure you know it´s a program you dont need in the startup process.

6. Extra turbo to the PC

The power management in Windows is of great importance to the PC’s speed. Open the control panel, click ‘Hardware and Sound’, select ‘Power Management’ and then ‘Create a power plan’. Click next to ‘High Performance’. If you are using a laptop, this will reduce battery life, so do not do it if you are going to travel far.

Hope some of these tips helped, or at least gave a better understanding of the reasons for a slow computer.
